The year has started out strong for technology. With the CES 2017 revealing what could come to fruition in the year of 2017. Following that there were some new waves being made by Sony's PS4, with its newest update now allowing for beta testers to sign up and test some unique programs and possibly games before its official launch in order to gauge the wants and needs of their clients. Then again, perhaps the biggest uproar in the gaming community was the reveal of the Nintendo Switch and the details, including how it works, its release date, and what games will be included in it. But let us not forget that Microsoft is not kicking back and taking it easy. While Nintendo flaunts its new toy and Sony goes on with its own business, Microsoft has plans to something that will be a strong competitor against the two, and it goes by the name of Project Scorpio.
Like Nintendo, Microsoft likes to keep its information relatively confidential. While Nintendo drops hints every now and then, Microsoft has had a reputation of trying to keep things within a circle until the release date, where they explode with information. But then again, not all people are perfect and, much like Nintendo, a leak or two is bound to happen. According to Extremetech.com, a leaked PDF file has shown quite a bit of information regarding Project Scorpion, the plan that Microsoft has been concocting to handle 4K gaming. Since 4K games is the clearest and most pristine of all gaming imagery, Microsoft wanted to tackle this head on with their own secret weapon.
Segmentnext.com claims that the Xbox Scorpio, as it is commonly referred to for the developers, will no longer have the same mechanics that make the Xbox One run but instead will be stronger than it, specifically 4.5x stronger. While many would expect this new GPU to focus on its resolution, what it actually plans on focusing on is dividing its power to other functions such as making higher fidelity shadows, reflections, texture filtering, and lower draw distances. While there is no guarantee that Microsoft's new project will flat out beat the competition for 4K gaming, it is clear that what they have in the shadows will be a mighty rival against other competitors.
