Although Pokémon Go earns more per minute basis, the data shows that other game apps are making more money during the full year.

The mobile game market in overall generates an estimate $36 billion in revenue last year, and Pokémon Go single handedly broke records as the fastest growing mobile game of all time.

Game of War takes the second spot with $2,167.83 per minute, while Clash of Clans and Candy Crush Saga are in third and fourth spots respectively. Released in 2012, Clash of Clans makes $1,847.31 per minute compared to Candy Crush Saga, also released in 2012, which earns $1,847.01 a minute.

In a recent update by a data release by App Annie, Pokemon Go ranked within the top three for both top downloads and most revenue earned on both iOS and Google Play storefronts combined despite only releasing halfway through 2016.

Pokemon Go pulled over $950 million in consumer spending before the end of 2016 according to Gamasutra, with $800 million of that happening within 110 days of release.

However, the immensely popular AR game still fell behind Monster Strike and Clash of Clans in terms of games that earned the most revenue across both mobile platforms.

With the release of Clash Royal to support the success of Clash of Clans, it has cemented Supercell as the second top-earning mobile company of 2016, just after the Chinese company Tencent.

It is a trend that continues to shine throughout this past year as the Chinese game market has seen significant growth since 2014. Both China and Japan outranked the United States in terms of average revenue earned on a per user basis (ARPU) since last year, but the gap between the East and the West grew significantly in 2016.

Last year Japan's ARPU increased from $16 to $30 and China's grew from $10 to $25. In that same span of time, the ARPU of American players only went from roughly $7 to $13.
