Informative details on the Nintendo next flagship console - Switch, has been released on Sunday during Tokyo Nintendo Switch event in Japan. The event of the hybrid console - which allows gamers to play games either connecting to a television or portable, though still carrying a bunch of mystery - has given at least five confirmation.
A report from The Verge reveals the following:
1. Release date will be on March 3.
The console will be released worldwide on March 3rd at a retail price of $299.99. It will be available in two versions - a console with all gray Joy-Con controllers or Neon Red & Neon Blue Joy-Con set. Alongside the Switch, Nintendo has announced several launch titles for March 3rd, headlined by the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and minigame collection 1-2-Switch.
2. Console Hardware
Nintendo Switch was confirmed to have a 6.2-inch, 1280 x 720 resolution display, with up to 1080p output available on a TV set when docked. When switched to handheld mode, the console gets between three and six hours of battery life on a charge. It will be utilizing USB-C port for charging.
The Switch won't be region locked, for the first time for Nintendo home console, allowing games from anywhere in the world to be played on the console. It has 32GB of internal storage, which can be further expandable with microSD cards.
3. Joy-Con features
The controller will have a Capture button for quickly recording gameplay screenshots and video clips. It will be equipped with a wrist strap to prevent flinging the controller from nearby people. The right Joy-Con controller contains an IR camera that Nintendo claims are able to identify the shape and locations of objects, such as games like rock-paper-scissors.
4. There will be tons of games available
Nintendo came prepared with a wealth of new games for the switch. Leading the charge is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which will be a flagship launch title for the new console. Nintendo also noted that over 50 companies have expressed interest in creating games for the Switch, with over 80 games already in development.
5. There will be fees to play online
The online service for the new console will require a monthly fee starting in fall 2017. According to Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima, users will be able to try out Nintendo Switch Online for free during a trial period which is after the launch.
