The war between supernatural races is set to continue in the upcoming Underworld 5. An official title has been revealed for the film while speculations continue that it could be Kate Beckinsale's final time to play as the death dealer Selene.
The next Underworld installment previously thought to be released as Underworld: Next Generation has acquired its official title Underworld Blood Wars. As reported by Digital Spy, it will feature Beckinsale's Selene and Theo James' Davis as they are torn between the Lycan leader Marius, elder Thomas, and a rogue vampire to be played by Tobias Menzies, Charles Dance, and Lara Pulver, respectively.
However, Scott Speedman opted not to return to the sequel to reprise his role as Selene's lover, Michael Corvin. Furthermore, according to IGN, Outlander helmer Anna Foerster is sitting in the director's chair for the fifth film. The script was written by Cory Goodman.
Plot details for the film are still officially under wraps but it is expected to be as action-packed as the previous installments. Since the first film's release, the entire franchise has been going on for 13 years and according to Screen Rant, the rumor mill has been hard at work suggesting that the upcoming film might witness Beckinsale as she passes the lead role to a much younger character.
But whether such speculations are true or not, the upcoming Underworld Blood Wars is expected to settle it. The anticipated sequel was filmed in the Czech Republic and was concluded in October of last year.
The upcoming Underworld Blood Wars will serve as a sequel to the 2012 Underworld: Awakening and will witness the Beckinsale's return in the center. More details and confirmations about the plot of the sequel are expected to be released as the project inches closer to its October 14, 2016 release date.
