'Tomb Raider' reboot may be scheduled for a surprise release on October 2017. Daisy Ridley confirmed that she is in talks to star as the lead protagonist Lara Croft. The young actress is best known for playing Rey in the 'Star Wars' franchise.
According to i09.com, the planned reboot for the highly popular videogame series of the same name may be looking at a possible October 6, 2017 release. The film, reportedly under the running title 'The Tomb Rader', is rumored to be one of Warner Bros. untitled films lined up in the next coming years. It is replacing the upcoming live-action fantasy-adventure film 'Jungle Book' directed by Andy Serkis after it was bumped to a new October 2018 schedule.
It was previously speculated that breakout star Daisy Ridley has been tagged to play the latest big screen adaptation of iconic videogame heroine Lara Croft. The 24-year old English actress found international fame after starring in J.J. Abrams' 'Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens' as Rey, the series newest main protagonists. She is currently filming Rian Johnson's yet untitled follow-up 'Star Wars Episode 8'.
According to Screen Crush, Ridley confirmed that she was in talks with the Warner Bros. for the role of young Lara Croft. It was also speculated that the studio may have already secretly signed Ridley for the planned project.
Ridley previously opened up about the possible role during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at the Empire Awards last March. She said, "(There) have been discussions... I'm waiting for someone to say, 'I want you, let's do it'." She also admitted that despite her busy schedule with the 'Star Wars' franchise, she would definitely sign on to the 'Tomb Raider' cinematic series should the opportunity present itself.
'The Force Awakens' co-star John Boyega was also in full support for Ridley over the potential casting. He said, "I played Tomb Raider the game; it's a new take and I think the movies are going to be based on that version... But I texted Daisy [and] was like, 'This is you!' and 'You need to get on that because you could be Lara Croft.' She should be."
'Tomb Raider' reboot is a planned action-adventure film based on the popular video game series of the same name. It will be directed by Roar Uthaug and will be based on a screenplay prepared by Evan Daugherty. It is currently in pre-production and is slated to be released sometime in 2017.
