After starring in the The Bourne Ultimatum, Matt Damon is set to reprise his role as the amnesiac Jason Bourne in the upcoming Bourne 5. Director Paul Greengrass hinted on what Bourne did during his absence while Damon clarified that the upcoming film will not be a 'whole new chapter'.
After almost a decade, Damon is set to return in the action franchise to fill in the void left by his absence for the fourth film in the franchise. During his talk with Entertainment Weekly, director Paul Greengrass said that he was not enjoying his holiday when he went off the grid.
"He's been in the shadows of Europe," Greengrass said. "He's been active and he's been doing hard physical work. Definitely not sunning himself on the beach", the director stated about the character. Greengrass also stressed that they decided to make the movie only when they were certain that it can live up to the previous installments in the franchise.
According to Enstarz, Damon revealed that they want to separate the film from the previous movies as a lot of years will have passed when the film hits the theaters. As for its official title 'Jason Bourne', Damon said that the title will make sense when the movie is released.
"I think the title will make more sense when you see the movie, but it felt right because it felt pertinent to the story we were telling and also different from the others--in the right way. A decade has passed...", Damon said.
Furthermore, as reported by Den of Geek, Damon also revealed that the upcoming film will provide resolutions to the questions left in Bourne Ultimatum. "This is the completion of this journey that started in The Bourne Identity. It's part of the first three, it's not a whole new chapter. It feels like the conclusion, even though we're not saying it's the conclusion, it feels like the conclusion of my identity journey. It goes deeper than Ultimatum, basically" he said.
Bourne 5 will also see the return of Julia Stiles as Nicky Parsons and will feature new cast members like Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones, Ato Essandoh, and Vincent Cassel. It is currently slated to hit theaters on July 29, 2016.
