Disney is bringing fans back to the world of Snow White, but this time the focus is on the princess' sister, Rose Red. Snow White and the Huntsman writer Evan Daugherty is on board to rewrite the film initially penned by Justin Merz.
The mouse house's iteration of the classic story of Snow White and Rose Red deviates from the version of Snow White in the fairy tales, but rather connects Rose Red as the sister of the classic version of the princess who was helped by seven dwarves.
According to Den of Geek, the story of Snow White will be retold but will center on her estranged sister, Rose Red, who will come to her rescue after she takes a bite of the poison apple. In the upcoming film, Rose Red will team with the seven dwarves to bring her sister back to life.
Aside from the connection between the sisters, official plot details are still unknown. However, as reported by /Film, the Grimm's tale featured a cranky dwarf and a prince disguised as a bear, thus it is possible that such elements would also be translated into the film. But until official details are released, plot speculations must be treated with a grain of salt.
According to Variety, the original draft was penned by 'The Boxcar Children' writer Justin Merz. The film is set to be polished by Evan Daugherty who pitched the connection of Rose Red to Snow White. Tripp Vinson is set to produce under Vinson Films along with Merz and Adam Rodin as co-producer. Also, Tara Farney is on board to executive produce.
Rose Red is the latest announced flick for Disney after the successful live action iterations of Cinderella and Maleficent. Huge anticipation is also circling around its upcoming Beauty and the Beast live version starring Emma Watson. No release date has been announced as of yet for Rose Red.
