‘Captain America: Civil War:’ Directors tease “love story” between two main characters; War Machine dies?

'Captain America: Civil War' directors Joe and Anthony Russo revealed that their new film will be a "love story" between two main characters. It was also speculated that Don Cheadle's War Machine will meet his death in the upcoming film.

According to The Independent, the Russo brothers revealed that their upcoming film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) will be a "love story" between two key characters in the franchise and it may be one that is the least expected by audiences. It will not be a romantic story but will be one of great friendship and fraternity.

Joe Russo explained, "What's fascinating about the Cap-Bucky story as well is it's a love story... These are two guys who grew up together, and so they have that same emotional connection to each other as brothers would, and even more so because Bucky was all Steve had growing up."

Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes a.k.a. The Winter Soldier, likened his character's friendship with Chris Evans' Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America to that of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence's relationship in the 'Bad Boys' buddy cop series.

According to Blastr, he said, "I think it's easy and generalising it to say that they're lovers, when you're forgetting that one has a lot of guilt because he swore to be the protector of the other, the father figure or older brother so to speak, and then left him behind. I have no qualms with it but I think people like to see it much more as a love story than it actually is. It's brotherhood to me."

Joe Russo added that their friendship, complicated by the storyline in 'Captain America: The First Avenger', will intensify in succeeding events in 'Captain America: Civil War'. It will lead Cap to question whether his friend is ultimately good or bad.

Meanwhile, Don Cheadle is joining the cast as James Rhodes a.k.a. War Machine, a U.S. jet pilot and military officer best known as a friend and ally to Iron Man. However, he became a member of the Avengers under the leadership of Captain America after the Battle of Sokovia.

In the trailer, War Machine is seen lying unconscious with Iron Man cradling him in his arms after being thrown down during a battle. According to the New York Daily News, Cheadle said that he appreciated having touched fans who were awaiting War Machine's fate in the new film.

He said, "I'm on Twitter, so I've gotten a few people going, 'Rhodey better not be dead, son. I'm going to be so mad.' Or 'I'm done with this thing if Rhodey's dead,'...I like that in a Marvel movie people are able to evoke such emotion." It is still unconfirmed whether War Machine will meet his demise in the new film.

'Captain America: Civil War' is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. It is scheduled to be released on May 6, 2016.
