While there is no Samsung Galaxy S5 across the globe had been updated yet to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, device owners in the United States are scrambling to get it first. Which US carrier will be able to roll out the Marshmallow upgrade first?
Samsung Galaxy S5 units in South Korea and Trinidad and Tobago were the only versions which were able to experience what Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow has to offer. In the United States, while no mobile carrier yet was able to exactly outline release date of Marshmallow on the device, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, AT&T and US Cellular are expected to release it by this month according to a report from IB Times.
The Korean version of the device underwent a beta test for a couple of weeks before finally being updated to Marshmallow. It is highly expected that Samsung America was also doing the same process in the past few weeks before letting the update out on Galaxy S5.
Over-the-air (OTA) update comes in stages. It often lasts for a few weeks before the update will cap off. To check the update, go to Settings > About phone > Check software version.
Marshmallow is expected to come heavier than 1GB as Samsung gives a couple of improvements and new features on top of Google's.
Meanwhile, T-Mobile is the sole carrier to offer details of the software status of Galaxy S5. Currently, its versions are in the testing period to see how the device under it would perform with the new build.
One of the most exciting features Samsung offered on the table with Marshmallow is the new browser that supports ad-blocking. This browser got a new API which enables developers to add ad blocker extension to kill annoying ads. Luck is on the side of Galaxy S5 because this feature will only be made available to Samsung phones and tablets running Android 5.0 Lollipop and Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
To use this feature, simply install a content blocking software like Adblock Fast from Play Store and the device shall be good to go.
