Miller stated that the relationship between Sherlock and Doctor Joan Watson is sacred and if the showrunners put some romance and intimacy within the two, the show will never be the same "Elementary" that the viewers used to watch.
As for the official plot synopsis of episode 17, Spoilers Guide notes, "When a man who secretly fought crime dressed as a popular comic book superhero is murdered, Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) must discover his real identity before they can find his killer. Also, Mr. Morland Holmes (John Noble) makes a surprise donation to Watson's favorite charity in order to compel her to do him a business-related favor.
