CBS announced that they may cancel "Elementary" Season 4 due to its constant decline of viewers and household ratings. The network also released the official plot description for episode 10 "Alma Matters" and what happened in the "Murder Ex Machina" has been discussed.
CBS revealed that the household ratings and viewership performance of "Elementary" consistently declines every season. As detailed on Carter Matt, the Robert Doherty-created series may give the best case-of-the-week storylines unfortunately the ratings stated otherwise.
Despite the fact that it is a regularly-scheduled series, the show has garnered a poor 18-49 average demographic. The ratings are also 20% down compared from its 3rd season which is also 20% down than the season premiere. This likely leads to the network's decision of cancelling the show's 5th installment.
As per the official synopsis for episode 10 Hollywood Hills notes that "Sherlock Holmes' (Jonny Lee Miller) tentative reconciliation with his father is going to suffer a setback when Holmes and Dr.Joan H. Watson (Lucy Lio) discover Morland Holmes (John Noble) has been keeping a secret that threatens all of their safety. Also, Holmes and Watson will end up investigating two murders connected to a for-profit college and its illegal recruitment practices."

Also, Joan received a surprise solo dinner invitation from Sherlock's father.
