'Bad Boys 3' is an upcoming action-comedy intended as the follow-up to 2003's 'Bad Boys 2'. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence will reunite as the lead protagonists in the long-awaited sequel. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who also worked on the preceding two films, has signed on for the newest project in the franchise.

According to Complex, Smith and Lawrence are reprising their roles as Miami Police Department narcotic detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, respectively. Smith revealed, "I saw Martin [Lawrence] a few weeks ago... I haven't seen him for about two years. We just looked at each other. We hugged. In that moment, we knew we were making another Bad Boys. We're definitely doing another one."

The two starred in the original 1995 film helmed by Michael Bay in his directorial debut. The first film in the cinematic series earned $141 million, against a $19 million budget. They returned for the 2003 sequel, which also became a box office success despite generally negative reviews - earning $273 million, against a $130 million budget.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer produced the first film with Don Simpson and also returned to work on the sequel. According to an article by TMZ, Bruckheimer met with Smith to finalize negotiations for the third film in the franchise as well as prepare its new script. Bay may not be returning for directorial duties and will instead be replaced by Joe Carnahan of 'The A-Team' as rumors suggest.

According to Den of Geek, 'Bad Boys 3' was originally scheduled for a February 2017 release but was pushed back to June 2, 2017 in order to gain traction for the summer blockbuster months. The move was part of Sony's reshuffling of future movie premieres, which includes the upcoming Stephen King live-action adaptation 'The Dark Tower' as well as 'Barbie'.

The 'Bad Boys' franchise follows Mike and Marcus as they investigate the illicit drug trade in their home state Miami. Gabrielle Union, Peter Stormare, Jordi Molla, Theresa Randle, Joe Pontoliano and Otto Sanchez joined Smith and Lawrence in the second film and it is yet to be confirmed if any of the cast members will be returning for the third.

'Bad Boys 3' is an upcoming action-comedy starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. It is scheduled to be released on June 2, 2017 and will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
