Aside from the Moto G (2nd Gen), Motorola and Verizon Wireless have released the Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware for the DROID Turbo 2. The said Marshmallow 6.0 sotfware is also expected to bring new and enhanced features to the device.
According to Ubergizmo, a couple of days ago, a report has surfaced that Verizon's DROID Turbo 2 underwent a soak test for the upcoming Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. Now, it seems that the test did not run for a long period of time because Verizon has reportedly started rolling out the software update.
Based on the Verizon Wireless' statement, the company is pleased to announce a software update for the DROID Turbo 2 devices. This has been tested to optimize device performance, resolve known issues and apply the latest security patches. It also added that the upgrade is rolling out as well and it appears to be coming in two parts.
Tech Times added that the first one will basically bring the software version of users' DROID Turbo 2 to 23.31.24. The second one will bump that version number up again to 24.14.10. Just to be clear, this will give the Marshmallow part of things.
The said Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware will bring new features to the DROID Turbo 2 devices. One of which is the Now on Tap feature which allows users to conveniently get Google Now results based on the context seen on the screen. When a user taps and holds the home button while on the text messaging app, the Now on Tap will pull up a selection of links and details depending on what the conversation is about.
The Marshmallow software also brings Doze mode, a feature that will turn off background processes when the device is not in use. As another step toward that direction, App Standby can set apps to a reduced-activity state to conserve power.
This firmware update also gives the SD card two functions, being a portable storage or internal storage. When it's on portable storage mode, it will store the usual media files such as photos, videos and music. On internal storage mode, it will essentially serve as an extension of the device's native capacity, which will allow users to install and store apps and games in addition to media files.
Aside from the above mentioned features, Phone Arena stated that the Marshmallow firmware will give the users more control on their apps wherein they will be asked to give permissions to an app on a feature-by-feature basis. With the Android Marshmallow, users can decide what happens when they press a web link. They can also arrange for the link to always open in the app, always open in the Chrome browser, or be given a choice each time they click on a web link.
The Android 6.0 also allows the DROID Turbo 2 owners to use their microSD cards to carry internal device storage. It also allows them to configure Do Not Disturb to block everything but apps and contacts that you deem important, block everything but alarms, or to block everything.
Also, the Volume controls have received some tweaks. The side volume keys on their smartphone will adjust their ringtone volume, and an on-screen slider will change the media and alarm volumes. Another new feature is the Direct Share which will allow users to share to a contact or a conversation being held inside an app.
Among the Motorola features, the "Attentive Display" will dim the screen if users are not looking at it. Under Moto Assist, owners of the device can set their phone to read the messages while the users are driving or end up at a certain location by opening the app, tapping on the icon at the top right of the screen, going to Voice and selecting Talk to me.
Indeed, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow for DROID Turbo 2 under Verizon Wireless brings a lot of new features that the users will surely enjoy. But as usual, the update is expected to roll out gradually as it is released through over-the-air.
