'Ant-Man and the Wasp' Updates: Director Peyton Reed 'confirms' NC-17 rating; Oscar-winner Adam McKay is involved with the film

By

Perhaps to follow in the success of the super R-rated "Deadpool" movie, the upcoming "Ant-Man and the Wasp" (also titled "Ant-Man 2") ups the ante by aiming for a NC-17 rating, a first among all Marvel and Disney films combined. The news was confirmed by director Peyton Reed.

Despite the R-rating for "Deadpool," the movie amassed over $600 million in global box office sales and has surpassed "family friendly" "Iron Man" and "Ant-Man." If the movie's performance keeps on, it might defeat the "The Matrix: Reloaded" as the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.

"Deadpool" has set a remarkable example for some of the superhero flicks that's about to come. According to IGN, "Wolverine 3" will have an R-rating and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" will also release an R-rated version in Blu-Ray.

At this length, certainly "Ant-Man" director Peyton Reed is not one to be left out of the trend.

In a very straightforward tweet, Reed wrote, "Breaking: ANT-MAN AND THE WASP is going FULL NC-17. Confirmed." Reed added that the green-lit "The Inhumans" will be a snuff film.

Although an NC-17 "Ant-Man 2" might pique everyone's interests the same way "Deadpool" did when it was confirmed to be R-rated, it appears that anything completely out of the "family entertainment" is not in Disney and Marvel's to-do list for now.

Academy Award-winning screenwriter and director Adam McKay will return to work his magic for "Ant-Man and the Wasp." McKay confirmed that he will be involved in the production for the second "Ant-Man" film although his participation has not been clarified yet. He was contributed largely to the screenplay of "Ant-Man," which he rewrote with actor Paul Rudd.

Adam McKay is known for his dirty wisecracks and green humor, so perhaps that will be enough to bring "Ant-Man and the Wasp" at a closer level to "Deadpool," but without necessarily placing it out of children's reach.

"Ant-Man and the Wasp" is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Three. "Ant-Man" cast members Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly and Michael Douglas have signed up to reprise their roles in the sequel. The movie is projected to come out in 2018.

In the meantime, fans will be able to see Ant-Man in action in the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War."
