9to5Google is temporarily back in business after Google suspended its ad network amidst accusations of trademark violation. The tech news website might be forced to change its name to resolve the issue.
Google reinstated tech news website 9to5Google's AdSense network after suspending it on Wednesday. The website's ad revenue was temporarily frozen due to allegations of trademark violation. Business Insider reported that 9to5Google earned income amounting to "6 figures" per month through the Google AdSense and Doubleclick/ Ad Exchange network.
A Google account representative apologized for making abrupt changes without first notifying the 9to5Google team. However, the company justified its actions saying that the trademark violation was an explicit breach of the AdSense policy.
Google's policy team only took action on the trademark infringement even though 9to5Google has been around for five years, as per Tech News Today. Google said that its legal team needed to act immediately regardless of when the violation was discovered.
The Google representative stated that they are ready to help the 9to5Google team by providing them information on how to legally use their trademark. Google advised the tech news website to use third parties for sourcing ads.
On its website, 9to5Google said that it is back on business for now. 9to5Google said that it will appeal the decision on the grounds that the news site is not impersonating Google, but only trying to report all-things Google.
The team said that a name change will be inevitable as the issue had been brought up. 9to5Google asked its readers on what the site's new name would be. Some names that 9to5Google are considering are 9to5G.com, 925.co, and even 9to5Alphabet.com. However, 9to5Alphabet.com would seem not to be the best choice as it imposes the same risks as the name 9to5Google.
9to5Google is a tech website focused on delivering news related to Google. It has a sister website called 9to5Mac which reports about all-things Apple.
