Sony Xperia Z6 Release Date, Specs, Price Rumors: What to expect from the upcoming Sony flagship?

By

The upcoming Sony Xperia Z6 was previously predicted to make its first appearance during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016, but it didn't happen. With this, new speculations suggest that the Japanese tech company will unveil its flagship handset on IFA 2016 instead.

As previously reported, the upcoming Sony Xperia Z6 is rumored to be released this month. However, there are talks stating that the Japanese tech giant will instead launch its forthcoming device in Berlin on September. Tech analysts believe that since the earlier Xperia Z series devices were unveiled at the IFA events, the Xperia Z6 will be no different. In addition, the unlocked versions of the current Sony flagship device, the Xperia Z5, recently hit the market shelves in North America. This somewhat indicates that the launch of Xperia Z6 will not take place this month.

When it comes to features and specs, International Business times stated that Z6 will continue to have a 5.2-inch screen just like the Z5. Rumors suggest that a water-proof glass and metallic body is also in the works. This handset will be armed with an IPS LCD panel that Sony uses for most of its smartphone screens.

For the display, the Xperia Z5 Premium has sported a 4K display and many are expecting to see the same with Z6. This handset is speculated to have an iPhone-like 3D Touch tech, which Sony may be working on right now. The said technology relies on detection of pressure on the screen to issue commands.

The Xperia Z6 is believed to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 as this chipset is seen on most flagship phones this year. The processor could be coupled with a 4 GB of RAM; although for internal storage and RAM, Sony could introduce variants. This basically means that different variants may sport different storage and RAM capacities.

For the OS, it is almost definite that the Xperia Z6 will have the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow pre-installed. When it comes with the camera department, the Xperia Z6 is rumored to feature a huge 23MP rear-facing shooter with an F2.0 aperture and a front-facing snapper between 5 to 8MP.

There is no available information yet about the battery capacity, but if it will be based on the Xperia Z5 that is fuelled by a 2,900mAh battery, the Xperia Z6 should have something close to a 3,200 mAh capacity. Additionally, Sony's STAMINA Mode and Ultra-STAMINA mode paired with Android Marshmallow's doze mode should be able to provide long lasting usage for the device on a single charge.

A Type-C USB port is also speculated to be in the works that will enable data transfer and fast charging. Aside from that, the fingerprint scanner the company had on the Z5 is uncertain at this point, since this technology was not introduced for the US models. But with most flagship devices set to launch biometric authentication, a finger print scanner cannot be excluded especially since Sony already has the tech.

As for the price, Morning News USA noted that the Sony Xperia Z6 is expected to cost somewhat around its predecessor's price which is $600. With Xperia Z5 arriving in a Compact version, its successormight have one too.

As the Sony Xperia Z6 is believed to be unveiled on IFA 2016, the company still has ample time to furnish and improve its upcoming flagship handset. Nevertheless, Sony's patrons could rely on these speculations for now until the Japanese tech company announces concrete details about the Z6.
