Pacific Rim 2 is on its way to the big screen after the original has toppled a great amount of revenue. The original film wowed many viewers since 2013 and will continue it with Pacific Rim 2, as confirmed by director Guillermo Del Toro. However, the sequel may feature a new lead actor as Charlie Hunnam is rumored to ditch the next film.
Pacific Rim 2 is definitely happening, director Guillermo Del Toro assured the fans, according to The Christian Post. The filmmaker took it to Twitter to promise the audience that they'll be getting a sequel after the first movie's success. He wrote "Pac Rim 2 cancelled? Don't believe everything you read. It's still going and I'll remain w it in one way or another!"
Del Toro's statement suggests he's going to push Legendary Pictures more and more until it gives full support to Pacific Rim 2. Moreover, things are looking good for the film as the Dalian Wanda, the franchise's production company, had just acquired the studio who released 'Jurassic World' and 'Godzilla' for $3.5 billion.
While there's good news for the studio, there's also a bad one for the fans of the franchise as Charlie Hunnam is rumored to leave the role of Raleigh Becket. According to MNR Daily, Hunnam is tired of the movie being placed on hiatus repeatedly. The actor was also noted to have accepted numerous acting roles to keep himself busy as he is being eyed for Green Arrow in DC's and Warner Bros' "Justice League" film. Due to this, Charlie Hunnam may not commit in returning for "Pacific Rim 2."
It was announced recently that the sequel is getting another delay, according to Korea Portal. Kaiju and Jaegers are supposed to return on the big screen on August 4, 2017 but it has been pushed back again due to some circumstances. Reports claim that the delay is due to the studio wanting to give a blast-out story that must be worthy of the 2013's Pacific Rim. The studio is trying to exceed the first film's amazing experience, Universal Pictures has announced.
Currently, the sequel is on hold and has no exact release date. Nonetheless, many are expecting Pacific Rim 2, also known as "Pacific Rim: Maelstorm", to hit cinemas by 2017.
