'Bones' Season 11 Update: Fox announces show's return even as network remains undecided on its fate

By

Fox announced on Wednesday the return of "Bones" Season 11 on April 14 with Episode 11 titled "The Death in the Defense". It will be taking off from the explosive fall finale that gave what could be considered the most shocking and totally unexpected scenes in the show's history.

Before the show's long hiatus, Aubrey and Hodgins became unfortunate victims of a bombing. Aubrey went through a surgery and recovered from his injuries. However, Hodgins was not as lucky as the fan favorite was severely injured. Late in the episode, it was revealed that what were thought to be minor scrapes actually caused a slow-release damage to his spine. Hodgins was paralyzed from the waist down.

"Bones" Season 11 will return eight weeks into Hodgins' rehabilitation and how he is dealing with his life in a wheelchair. The winter finale also showed the return of Arastoo who wants Cam back. Before the bombing, Hodgins realized that life is too short not to make babies with Angela according to Cartermatt.

Meanwhile, EP John Collier revealed what is in store for Brennan and Booth during the second half of "Bones" Season 11. He said that an outside threat will put the couple under duress. Last season, it was Booth's gambling problem that reawakened and threatened their relationship. This time it will be an external force, which Collier refused to name, that would threaten them.

In the first episode upon the show's return, Deadline reports that Brennan and Booth will investigate the death of a public defender who defended a lot of people who all have motives to kill her. The biggest cliffhanger of fans for "Bones" Season 11 though is whether the show will return for another season. More so since Fox exec Dana Walden has confirmed that the show having another season is still uncertain.

According to Christian Post, if "Bones" does get cancelled, Walden promised that it will end on a satisfying and meaningful note that its loyal viewers deserve. Meanwhile, the show's star David Boreanaz last year admitted that if it were up to him, he will end "Bones" with Season 11. He added that it will be great to end one of TV's most favorite series the way they want to do it.
