‘Aquaman’: Jason Momoa reveals character is struggling with “internal conflicts”; New ‘Justice League’ feature offers first concept art

'Aquaman' lead actor Jason Momoa revealed that his titular superhero will be struggling with "internal conflicts" in DC's new standalone film. New concept art for 'Dawn of the Justice League' featured his Aquaman together with the rest of the members of the superhero team-up.

According to HNGN, Momoa revealed that his superhero's first standalone film in the DC extended universe will involve a complex origin story. He said, "He's the only one that's both a human and a god... I want to see him struggle with the fact that he has these powers, and he doesn't know how to handle them. That he hasn't been trained."

Although no main villain has been officially announced, it has become apparent that Arthur Curry a.k.a. Aquaman will be suffering from internal struggles of his own as well as battling several antagonists.

In the comic books, Aquaman is introduced as the son of a lighthouse keeper until he discovers that his mother is the queen of Atlantis. Young Arthur eventually began developing superhuman abilities to which he found wholly perplexing. His began to realize that he could breathe underwater and communicate with marine animals.

According to Moviepilot, DC executive CCO Geoff Johns also hinted at Aquaman's conflict between being an ordinary human and a powerful god of the underwater world of Atlantis. He said, "[Aquaman's] very strong... He grows up not really feeling like he belongs in either world. So he's man trapped between two worlds, but has a responsibility to protect both of them."

Although the film's official plot is yet to be revealed, it was reported that Amber Heard is in negotiations to play Momoa's on-screen love interest and Queen of Atlantis, Mera. Both Momoa and Heard will be introduced in 2017's 'Justice League: Part One' film ahead of the planned standalone movie should negotiations push through. Warner Bros. did not comment on the supposed casting as of the present.

Meanwhile, the 'Dawn of the Justice League' concept art was recently unveiled and featured Aquaman and the rest of the members of the superhero team-up including Ezra Miller's The Flash and Ray Fisher's Cyborg. According to Collider, CW's television special offered additional shots of Momoa's king of the seven seas. The feature showed Momoa in full costume complete with a trident flanking the rest of the Justice League members fronted by Henry Cavill's Superman, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and Ben Affleck's Batman.

'Aquaman' is an upcoming science-fiction adventure film scheduled to be released on July 27, 2018. It will be directed by James Wan based on a screenplay by David Johnson and Kurt Johnstad. Zack Snyder, Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder will serve as producers.
