2K Sports takes the NBA 2K16 game to a whole new ball game as it announces the 'Road to the Finals' tournament that will converge players around the world to join the gaming competition and get a chance to win a whopping $250,000 prize pool.
Meanwhile, the game developers Take-Two Interactive and Visual Concepts are currently being sued for copyright infringement of the players' tattoos which appeared in the game.
According to GameSpot, 'Road to the Finals' series will commence on February 15 in North American region with in-game events on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. As per 2K, players can create their respective Pro-Am teams to compete in the qualifying events.
"Teams can participate in any of the 16 qualifying events where they will need to win at least four games in order to qualify, 2K announced.
Those four games will be scored based on the team's performance and then ranked on the event leaderboard. The top score of each qualifying event day will be deemed the winner and will move on to the tournament."
Come May 21, the top 16 teams will then battle it out in single elimination tournament and the two victorious teams will vie for the championship and bag the $250,000 prize in June tying in with the real life NBA Finals.
For players to qualify and join the tournament, they must be 13 years and older in the US except in AZ, CT, MD, and ND as well as Canada excluding Quebec. The complete list of contest rules can be viewed here.

Solid Oak Sketches filed the case on Monday in New York stating they own copyright to eight signature tattoos in the game including ones on Basketball icons LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, reports Darren Rovell of ESPN.
Solid Oak Sketches initiated a $1.1 million deal with Take-Two Interactive during the NBA 2K16 development stages so that they will give the permission for their copyrighted works to appear in the game.
NBA 2K16 is now available on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, and PC while a mobile version of the game is also released for iOS and Android devices back last year. The next entry to the series, NBA 2K17, is already reported to be in the works.
