Authorities revealed on Monday, the three inmates had been plotting their escape for at least six months from the California jail. As they escape, the three adducted a taxi driver and drove them to Northern California.
According to the Guardian, the inmates, Johnathan Tieu, Hossen Nayeri and Bac Duong waited for their accomplice to pick them up shortly after they broke out from the Orange County's Central Men's jail in January 22.
Nayeri pointed a gun on the taxi driver and abducted him for two nights in Southern California. The three stole a van and drove again to North. Two of the inmates, Nayeri and Bac Duong had a fight while staying at the Alameda hotel room, making decisions to kill or not the driver. Duong, along with the taxi driver goes back to Santa Ana and later surrendered himself to the authorities.
Regarding the escape of the California inmates, a second language teacher in prison, Nooshafarin Ravaghi, 44 was also arrested for allegedly helping the inmates to escape. However, the teacher was released due to the lack of evidence to charge her. Authorities requested for further investigations regarding her involvement. However, according to the Sheriff's Department, the teacher and Nayeri had exchanged "letters of a personal nature."
The District Attorney, Tony Rackauckas, made an announcement over Lac Ba Nguyen's arrest on suspicion. According to CBS Local, Nguyen provided an article useful for their escape plan. Authorities did not disclose further details regarding the article. He had given the inmates "things that facilitated the escape" and they were picked up. Duong surrendered to the authorities on Friday while Tieu and Nayeri were arrested in San Francisco on Saturday.
Nguyen is also scheduled to appear in court on February 22, Inside Bay Area reported. Though the inmates are back in the police custody, authorities will continue to examine how they carried out their escape plan as well as what they did while on the run.
The three inmates didn't know each other before being jailed in the Orange County jail. They were all also awaiting trial on charges for their crimes.
