Screen Gems announced that the Underworld 5 will hit the big screen on October 21, 2016. Latest news claims that the action-horror movie will be adapted into a weekly live-action TV series by director Lens Wiseman, Kate Beckinsale's ex-husband.
The Underworld franchise is indeed a success, but fans are clamoring for it to be adapted into a TV series. Many say that the premise of the Underworld film has something more to tell. There are backstories in the Underworld that require more explanation, and movies sometimes tend to fell short when it comes to providing more details about the characters and their history.
While director Wiseman is now the producer of the film, the directional duties will go to Anna Foerster. Kate Beckinsale will reprise her role as the lead protagonists, Selene. Lawyer Herald reported that gorgeous actress decided to continue filming Underworld 5 despite her break up with long-time husband, Len Wiseman. The story of Underworld 5 is written by Cory Goodman, and many fans believe that it will be as awesome, if not, greater than the previous films.
According to Korea Portal, Underworld 5 will pick up after the events of the last movie, Underworld: Awakening. If fans can remember, the last part of the movie shows Selene waking up from cryogenic slumber only to discover that humans have begun killing Lycans and Vampires.
Underworld 5 stars include Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Bradley James (Damien), English actor Tobias Menzies (Rome), Daisy Head (Fallen), Peeter Andersson (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Lara Pulver (Sherlock). National Post reported that Divergent Series actor Theo James will also reprise his role as Selene's friend, David.
The plotlines are not yet clear as of the moment. However, there are rumors saying that Beckinsale's Selene will start to show her human age in the latest Underworld installment. The production has already begun since November 2015, and speculations claim that the TV series has also begun filming during those months.
