To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the Pokémon Company and Nintendo bring a new game from the Pokémon series wherein Pikachu becomes a detective. Game developer shared the characters and gameplay as well as the debut date of the newest game.
Latin Post shared that the game for Nintendo 3DS is dubbed Great Detective Pikachu: The Birth of a New Duo. The game will be available on Nintendo eShop in Japan starting February 3 as a digital download.
The site said that game developer does not confirm yet whether Great Detective Pikachu: The Birth of a New Duo will get an English version. This time, Pikachu gets to talk a lot as investigation and interrogation will play a great role in the game.
Siliconera held that the game happens in Rhyme City, where humans and Pokémon exist in peace. A young boy Tim visits the place and meets Pikachu. Pikachu is a famous detective, bit pushy and arrogant towards the boy but the Pokémon is a bright detective with calm judgment, and is reliable.
The player takes the role of Tim as an assistant to Pikachu. The two are in-charge of gathering information through travelling around the field. Tim is tasked to talk to people while Pikachu gather information from other Pokémon, the site added.
Siliconera mentioned the other characters in the game are: Mike Baker (detective agency chief); Amanda Blackstone (detective agency assistant); Emilia Christie (new assistant director for a TV channel); Meiko Okamoto (an energetic TV director); and Pablo Milan (barista at the High Hat Cafe). The other Pokémon in the game are Mischievous Aipom, Trendy Furfrou, Scraggy, Slurpuff, Fletchling, Ludicolo, Trevenant, Drifblim, and Litwick.
Aside from the Great Detective Pikachu, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company will distribute a Super Bowl commercial, a Nintendo 3DS bundle, an augmented reality mobile game, and an arcade fighting game on Wii U to mark the 20th anniversary of the company, wrote The Verge.
