"Game of Throne" fans who are hoping that the upcoming season would finally see their heroes get the upper hand may be in for a huge disappointment. HBO's new teasers show that only more death and destruction lie in wait for the noble Houses of Lannister, Stark, and Targaryen. Another bummer is that Kit Carrington's recent interview where he says that his character, Jon Snow, remains dead. The actor says this, apparently refusing the plot leaks and photos from studio eavesdroppers who claim to have seen Ned Stark's bastard resurrected - and wearing a Stark crest on his armor.
Slashfilm, which previewed the three similar teasers, warns that they predict a "horrible fate" for the Lannisters in Kings Landing, the Starks who want to retake Winterfell, and Daenarys Targaryen, the Mother of all Dragons. All these characters are heavy fan favorites. Each trailer shows one of the banners of these Houses flying torn and in disarray. Then each of their greatest enemies says in a voice-over that more bad thins are in store.
In the first teaser, Ramsay Bolton crows that he is still the Lord of Winterfell. Then, in the second teaser, the religious fanatic the High Sparrow proclaims that he will restore order in the Kingdom, which is a direct challenge to the Lannisters. Finally, a growing Dothraki voice tells Daenarys that she is the queen of nothing.
Huffington Post merged its own analysis of the teasers with the leaks and came up with the following conclusions:
The Dothraki, the tribe of fierce warrior horsemen who abandoned Dany, will take her prisoner. The Sparrows, a mixture of monks and feudal samurais, will grab for more power in the capital, although they had released the Queen Mother Cersei Lannister from prison. Then, Bolton, after winning over Stannis Baratheon's attack last season, will confront another bastard-potential-heir, the formerly dead Jon Snow who seems to have been resurrected into a Lord Jon Stark.
Carrington, who plays Stark, tells fans not to hold their breath at his so-called and highly anticipated return. Snow's stabbing by his fellow Night Watchmen at the season 5 finale stunned audiences worldwide. It also fueled speculation that the Red Priestess' presence in the keep can still raise Jon from the dead and compel him to take his rightful place as Ned Stark's heir.
But in an interview quoted by the Independent, Carrington says that his character is "still dead ... everyone has to get used to it." He also claims that he has not been on the Game of Thrones set for some time.
The most stubborn fans hoping for a resurrection point out that photos leaked from the set show Jon alive and well and wearing a Stark armor. New posters from HBO also show a living and breathing Jon, with just one eye; that single socket is a mark of a Red Priestess' resurrection.
Still, even if Jon does get a resurrection, fans would be advised to keep their hopes in check. In the annals of TV, Game of Thrones is the one show famous for killing off characters that audiences have come to adore. As Slashfilm puts it, "Everyone you love dies."
