Zenfone 3 Specs, Release Date: Official launch in August; Includes fingerprint scanner as security feature

In 2016, Asus is reportedly releasing its flagship phone, the Asus Zenfone 3. With the bench set by the Zenfone 2 with its 4GB RAM, let's see if the successor can prove its worth.

According to Tech Times, The new Zenfone 3 made a cameo appearance at the GFXbench web site revealing its major key details. The official launch of the third generation Zenfone is still months from now, but fans are already getting their hopes high. Jonney Shih, Asus Chairman, confirmed that they intend to release the smartphone by August this year.

Codenamed Z0100DD and Z012D, the two variants of this Zenfone 3 will feature a phone-tablet hybrid screen and a mid-range specifications. Rumors have it that it will have a 5.9-inch with 1,280 x 720 resolution touchscreen HD display. Under the hood, the third generation Zenfone will utilize the Qualcomm's octa-core Snapdragon 615 system-on-a-chip and Adreno 405 GPU with 3GB of RAM.The company will also offer a 32GB onboard storage on the Z0100D variant. For camera lovers out there, it will sport a 12-megapixel main camera and a 5-megapixel front snapper. Both cameras will have the ability to capture full HD video.

The Z012D, on the other hand, will have a higher resolution of 1920x1080 but comes with a smaller screen of 5.5 inches. It will be using the Adreno 510 GPU with an undisclosed hexacore Snapdragon chipset. It is said also to have a 24GB of internal storage with 2.8GB of RAM to keep it going. No camera specs were divulged yet on the lower variant. Both variants will have the latest Android Marshmallow 6.0 Operating System as reported by IB Times.

The upcoming model from the Zenfone line up is sure to be an upgrade from the current Zenfone models. In appearance, the latest model doesn't seem to have a major improvement, but the company reassures its fans that it will be a mark higher than the previous models. Rumors also spread out that the company claims that the new generation Zenfones will have a fingerprint scanner. If this is true, then fans will have a mid-range price phone with a high-end feature.
