‘Avatar 2’ Update: James Cameron’s sequel to miss expected 2017 Christmas release; Delay’s due to Star Wars VIII?

By

After tons of reports regarding the sequel to 2009's massively successful film, Avatar, release date, the director decided to delay the expectations of the fans for 'Avatar 2'. Moreover, James Cameron disclosed information on the reason of this delay.

Since 2009, fans are waiting for the sequel of epic science fiction film that brought Pandora to the big screens, however, excitement of audience should be put on hold as the Avatar 2 is being delayed indefinitely. In the reports of The Wrap, James Cameron's Avatar 2 won't be ready in time for its planned Christmas 2017 release according to 20th Century Fox. After detailing this, there is still no comment from the studio and neither a new adjusted release date for the three announced sequels. It should be noted that this is the second delay to this film since it was initially promoted for this year's Christmas release. Furthermore, there haven't been reports that the filming has already started.

More to this, reports also pointed that key personnel to the project has given their statement about the delay. According to Chron, 20th Century Fox CEO Jim Gianopulos has provided his comment regarding this news. The Chairman-CEO said that "Jim Cameron has his own pace" which is real since the director is known for being a perfectionist in his projects. Also, Cameron has also hinted the possibility of delay last December in an interview after clarifying that Christmas 2017 is their target date as announced. But he added that he doesn't consider that as important since they'll be releasing Avatar 2, 3 and 4 a year apart once they've finished filming.

Lastly, due to this delay and no comment from the studio, many speculated that Avatar 2 is dodging the contest with Star Wars Episode 8 release. In the reports of Tech Times, it was guessed that Star Wars: Episode VIII has a lot to do with the delay. This was deducted since Disney decided to move the May 2017 release to a latter month which is December. Seeing that the Episode 7 has insanely took the box-office records to another roof, it would make sense that the 20th Century Fox came with their decision of Avatar 2 delay.

Avatar 2 is the expected sequel to the 2009 film, Avatar, starring Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana. The original film has been a massive success in the box-office as it was declared the highest grossing film of all time. Fans are expecting a second film for the year 2017 but was hold indefinitely by the studio and a response from them hasn't been release. Due to this, some deduced that this would be due to the Star Wars: Episode 8 being slated for the Avatar 2's announced release of December 2017.
