OS X El Capitan v10.11.3 Now Available for Download; Update Brings Bug, Security Fixes

By

Apple Inc. has released its newest OS upgrade, the OS X El Capitan v10.11.3, which can be downloaded from the Mac App Store. The said update was designed by the American tech to bring bug and security fixes to its devices.

According to Tech Times, Apple has released the El Capitan Sept. 30 last year. Its first beta version firmware upgrade was launched in mid-December while the 10.11.2 version arrived on Apple devices on the same month. Following these upgrades, the American tech giant has released a second OS X 10.11.3 beta and has reportedly started testing the upcoming OS X 10.11.4.

Apple stated that the OS X El Capitan v10.11.3 Update will improve the stability, compatibility, and security of the Mac devices. The company also stated that this upgrade is recommended for all users.

NDTV Gadgets cited some of the enhancements that the OS X El Capitan v10.11.3 would bring to the gadgets.

The update would bring fixes on multiple security holes -- eight of which could have been exploited by attackers to perform arbitrary code. Apple Inc. also patched a vulnerability that allowed a quarantined application to override OSA script libraries installed by the user.

Aside from the security patches, OS X El Capitan v10.11.3 also fixes the problem that prevents some Mac computers from waking from sleep. The issue has affected users who were connecting their Mac computers to certain 4K displays.

Additionally, Safari has also obtained a security-centric update. Available for OS X Mavericks v10.9.5, OS X Yosemite v10.10.5, OS X El Capitan v10.11 to v10.11.2, the update fixes a vulnerability that exposes users to attacks when visiting a malicious website. There's also a fix for WebKit CSS that allows a website to know if a user had visited a certain link. Moreover, OS X El Capitan v10.11.3 also offers a solution when "third-party .pkg file receipts stored in /var/db/receipts are now retained when upgrading from OS X Yosemite."

iDigitalTimes noted that the users of Mac devices who are trying to update El Capitan to Version 10.11.3, but seem to be having an "Update could not be verified" or "Error occurred while preparing the installation" problem can try a couple of solutions. The first one is to download an alternative copy of OS X 10.11.3 through the Apple Support website and try installing the update that way. There are two versions of OS X 10.11.3 on the Apple Support site, the standalone update (662 MB) and the combo version (1.47 GB).

If that solution still does not work, they could navigate to the Date & Time menu in System Preferences and make sure that the set date and time automatically is enabled. However, this menu option needs an internet connection and there is a way of manually upgrading the OS X clock to the correct time through Terminal.

Meanwhile, Apple plans to launch the polished version of the next OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan version alongside the release of iOS 9.3 and watchOS 2.2.
