Marvel is headed to release their first female action hero with the solo big screen outing of Captain Marvel. Although it is still a couple of years away from its release, speculation has surfaced as to the possible plot, and cast of the movie.
After the announcement that a Captain Marvel movie is to be released in the MCU, there has been a shortage on new updates. However, according to Cross Map, the rumor mill has been hard at work on the possible actresses who could play the character.
Several names have been linked to the character and some have expressed their interest in playing Carole Danvers, the alter ego of the heroine. But it is 'Edge of Tomorrow' star Emily Blunt, and The Martian's Jessica Chastain that is on top of the list.
Both actresses are doing well in their career, and could definitely give justice to the character, but among the two, it was Chastain who said that he wants to play the role of a superhero and not just a leading lady. Blunt on the other hand, admitted that she does not know the character and superhero films are not her forte.
Despite saying that she does not know the character, Marvel could still pitch the character to her as she was also previously courted for the characters if Black Widow and Peggy Carter. Moreover, while the wait for her live-action appearance in the big screen continues, Comic Book Resources reported that a series of the Captain Marvel comics was released.
In the new series, Danvers is the head of the new Alpha Flight which serves as Earth's first line of defense against cosmic threats. She is joined by Puck, Aurora, and Sasquatch as well as newer characters, Abigail Brand who serves as the group's Lt. Commander and Wendy Kawasaki who is their Science Officer.
According to CinemaBlend, it is unclear how her story will be narrated in the silver screen, whether it will be a back story or a new version. Her connection to the MCU has not been confirmed as well although the biggest rumor is that she could appear in Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 since director James Gunn previously denied her appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
No director and actors have been officially announced for Captain Marvel as of yet. Its screenplay is also in development by Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman. The movie was previously slated for a 2018 release, but is now expected in theaters in March 08, 2019.
