Cowboy Bebop live-action release depends on succes of Ghost in the Shell? Keanu Reeves bowed out from lead role

The live action version of Cowboy Bebop is definitely one of the anticipated movies to be made in Hollywood. However, since Keanu Reeves bowed out of the project, the role of Spike Spiegel remains vacant.

According to Andy Reviews, it has been years since the news came out about a live action version of the hit anime Cowboy Bebop. The Matrix star Keanu Reeves was initially linked to the main role of the detective, and bounty hunter Spike Spiegel.

Recent news about the flick, though, suggests that Reeves is no longer in the project. As reported by Youth Health Mag, Reeves stated that he wished and hoped to be part of the project, but he also believes he is too old to play the role of Spike.

Even though he left the project, Reeves said that he has seen its script of the proposed live action adapation, describing it as "amazing". But the John Wick star stated that it would cost a lot to make the film an actuality.

A couple of years ago, the film was believed to need 500 million dollars to make. Wth the CG work that it will require, the number could go higher which Hollywood is not yet ready to gamble on. Although the story of Cowboy Bebop has a huge following, it still does not guarantee the story's fate once it is debuted into the silver screen.

According to Korea Portal, the release of Cowboy Bebop is rumored to be dependent on the reception that "Ghost in the Shell" will get. It will star Scarlett Johansson and is expected to be released in the big screen in 2017.

If the "Ghost in the Shell" becomes a success, the Cowboy Bebop has a higher chance to move into production. No actors and directors are attached to the film as of yet but it is rumored to be released in 2018.
