Motorola has confirmed the roll out of Android 6.0 Marshmallow to its Moto G (Gen 2) handsets soon. In fact, the company has already posted some release notes of the latest operating system for the device on its India support website.
According to International Business Times, a member of the Moto G Reddit forum first posted the good news of Android 6.0 Marshmallow's arrival to the 2nd Gen Moto G devices -a sign that the company will be releasing the latest OS to other smartphone markets as well.
It was noted that in September 2014, Motorola Moto G (2nd Gen) was released in Android 4.4.4 KitKat and obtained the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in January 2015. Following the OS upgrade, it received patches for Stagefright September last year. Now, it is most likely for the company to skip Android v5.1 Lollipop and directly jump to the Android 6.0 upgrade which is also slated to land on Moto G (2nd Gen) 4G handsets.
Android Headline reported that the Android 6.0 update for the Moto G (Gen 2) will roll out gradually. If the user of the device received the notification, they just have to choose "Yes, I'm in" and the firmware will start to download. After the software is downloaded, owners of Moto G will have to select "Install Now" to start installation process.
On the other hand, if the owner of the device hasn't received the notification, they could manually check if the update is already available. They just have to go to the About section of the Settings menu and look for System Updates. Upon updating, the Moto G handsets should have over 50% of battery life and a stable Wi-Fi connection so that the downloading procedure won't be interrupted.
The said update will carry in enhancements such as the new app permission system which will let users have more control of their phone; the Doze mode which will enhance the battery life of the handset; and the Google Now On Tap that will provide contextual information of what's displayed on screen. The Do Not Disturb mode and Volume controls also earned a few tweaks.
Furthermore, the upgrade also brings new modes to Moto Assist which include Sleeping and Meeting, as well as Driving and Home. With this, the application can change how the phone behaves under different conditions.
On the other hand, the Motorola Migrate will be removed upon updating as its functionality is somewhat redundant. The Motorola Alert will also disappear; nevertheless, those users who need this app can download it from the Play Store.
For those who are unfamiliar with device, The Times of India cited some of the specs that this smartphone sports. This handset features a 5-inch HD screen with front-facing speakers; a microSD card support and 8-MP rear-facing camera. The Moto G (Gen 2) is engineered with a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, coupled with 1 GB of RAM and powered by a 2,070mAh capacity battery.
Although there is still no fixed schedule on the release, users of Moto G (Gen 2) can now rejoice as their handsets are confirmed to obtain the Android Marshmallow update. Apart from Moto G (Gen 2), Motorola has also started rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow to Moto G Turbo Edition in India.
