Total War: Warhammer Out on PC, Mac April 28th; Creative Assembly Talks Lore-Based Changes Affecting Regional Occupation

By

In the upcoming release of the fantasy strategy game Total War: Warhammer come April, natural restrictions are applied where players cannot conquer every region in the map. The regions that are allowed to be occupied depend on the player's selected race and target race.

According to PC GamesN, game director Ian Roxburgh explained to Creative Assembly's community coordinator Joey Berry that the lore-based changes to be introduced in Total War: Warhammer will directly affect regional occupation.

In the interview, Roxburgh discussed to Berry that each unique race in Total War: Warhammer must be portrayed accurately. He said, "there will be a natural restriction to which settlements can be occupied by certain races but this is partly in order to fulfil a much more satisfying and important goal - to reproduce the Warhammer world with Total War gameplay."

In Total War: Warhammer, the introduction of Orcs, Dwarves, Greenskins and Skaven changes the rule in the game where past games had involved humans fighting humans and it means that the entire battlefield was subject to occupation. But this time, this can't happen in the same way.

"This is by far the most important factor in the choices we've made regarding regional occupation," explains Roxburgh. "Although some of our games encourage players to have outpost settlements in various areas of the map that are distant from the main faction's start position, essentially, every faction in every Total War game to date broadly follows a similar theme."

But players shouldn't feel that the restrictions would limit their conquest, since "there are still a ton of regions to occupy regardless of which race you play and the feel of the campaign game is even more different between the races as a result," he explained.

Total War: Warhammer is a fantasy strategy game that is developed by Creative Assembly and published by Sega. It is set to launch on April 28 on PC, Mac OSX, and Linux.
