'Gambit' is an upcoming live-action adaptation of the X-Men character of the same name. Channing Tatum and Lea Seydoux will begin filming in March under director Doug Liman. The delays in production may affect the original October 2016 release.

According to ComingSoon, ABC affiliate WGNO in New Orleans confirmed that the cast and crew of the upcoming standalone X-Men film is set to begin production in March this year. Doug Liman, best known for films such as 'Edge of Tomorrorw', 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' and 'The Bourne Identity', has come on board as director.

Channing Tatum of 'Magic Mike' fame will portray the titular card-throwing mutant while Lea Seydoux of 'Spectre' will star opposite Tatum as his love interest Bella Donna Bodreaux.

Another article by GameSpot reported that director Rupert Wyatt was attached to helm the film but eventually exited the project stating scheduling conflicts. Insiders said otherwise stating creative differences with other executives instead. Wyatt is a director and writer well-known for his work in critically-acclaimed films 'The Escapist' and 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes'.

Ahead of the March production, it was reported by Collider that 20th Century Fox is currently holding casting calls for extras. Production will take place largely in the Hollywood South area of New Orleans.

The film's release date remains unconfirmed but Fox had it originally slated to come out in October 2016. However, delays in production that lead to a March filming schedule may push back the original release date even further since the tight timetable will only give the studio seven months for post-production. It was also reported that 'Gambit' may secure a Christmas release or an early 2017 at the least.

'Gambit' is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film directed by Doug Liman based on a screenplay by Joshua Zetumer. Reid Carolin, Simon Kinberg, Lauren Shuler Donner and Channing Tatum will be producing. The new film is based on the X-Men character of the same name best known for his ability to control and manipulate kinetic energy to his will.
