Motorola Moto E (2014) Officially Joins Android 6.0 Marshmallow Bandwagon

By

Moto E (2014) has been finally confirmed by Motorola to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow software via official over-the-air release. The first generation of the Moto E line is now in official list of Marshmallow phones up for the biggest upgrade in Android history.

Motorola has already announced that Moto E (2014) Android 6.0 Marshmallow release update on its support page is now in development. The smartphone is among Motorola's handset devices it announced last week getting the Marshmallow update. Moto E (2014) was released in May 2014 with Android 4.4.2 KitKat shipped out of the box.

Currently, all carrier, unlocked and retail versions of Moto E (2014) are running on Android 5.0 Lollipop. It remains uncertain if the device will still get the Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Marshmallow will come to Moto E (2014) units automatically over-the-air (OTA) as they become available only when it is connected to a Wi-Fi. Manual update can also be done using a USB connection and Motorola Device Manager. Check also the update via Settings > about phone > System updates.

The upgrade will come out a bunch of new features and optimizations like a new apps permissions, fingerprint support, app drawer, battery saver Doze and Google Now, among many others.

Apps Permissions gives device owners more convenient management of the permissions of downloaded apps. Owners are endowed with choices, either to allow or deny permissions. Apps Permissions are mandatory to all first time users of the feature, not at the point of installation.

Meanwhile, app drawer sports an all-new design ditching horizontal scrolls while replacing with vertical ones. The background is white to create a stark contrast with the scrolls. The improved app drawer shows four most recently used apps across the top of the menu.

If device has a fingerprint scanner, this features can be used for purchasing goods and services and unlocking device. Marshmallow also supports mobile payments through Visa, Discover, MasterCard, American Express and Google Pay.
