Oscars 2016: Mad Max, Revenant leading the nominations; Ridley Scott, Quentin Tarantino snubbed

By

The nominees for the prestigious Oscars awards have been announced. Most of the Academy's followers were surprised about the inclusion of the chest-beating action Mad Max: Fury Road for Best Picture while some were disheartened about Ridley Scott and Quentin Tarantino getting no nomination for Best Director.

Oscar snubs happen all the time and this 2016 Oscars is not an exemption. Here's a closer look on some of the most glaring Academy omissions this year.

Gizmodo reported that the Academy can't still get things right when it comes to dealing with how white their nominees are. All the nominees for this year are all white people. While the Academy might have an excuse, some find it ridiculous that movies like Sicario, Beasts of No Nation, Concussion, Tangerine, and Straight Outta Compton could have easily been included in the list.

Fans of Charlize Theron were also enraged that the actress was not commended for her astounding performance as Imperator Furiosa. Mad Max: Fury Road received and deserved 10 nominations, and yet it's unbelievable that Theron was overlooked. Her Imperator Furiosa was no doubt one of the most memorable character in the cinematic history. Oscar might have forgotten that Charlize Theron won an Oscar already.

Most people who saw The Martian would agree that it's the best thriller of the year. The film received six nominations including Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Picture. Yet, the man who helmed its magnificence got snubbed. Fans agree that Ridley Scott communicated beautifully in the film. The intensity and film experience was there, and yet the iconic director did not receive any nominations.

Scriptwriter Aaron Sorkin won an Oscar for The Social Network last 2011. Some believed he wasn't only a sure Academy nominee but likely to win another Oscar. Yet, he was also denied of having a nomination.

Lastly, Star Wars: The Force Awakens was this year's biggest grossing film. The Force Awakens might have received five nominations which include, Best Editing, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Visual Effects, and Score - but there's no nod for production design, costume, and best picture. Rotten Tomatoes even rated The Force Awakens, an outstanding 93%.

While some were disappointed with Oscar's decision of not including some of films and actors, fans will still watch the awarding of winners. Chris Rock will be hosting the Academy at the Hollywood's Dolby Theater this coming February 28.
