BlackBerry has released its first Android powered device, the BlackBerry Priv. Recently, the company's CEO confirmed that it will be releasing its second Android smartphone this year that could be named BlackBerry Vienna.
The Science Times stated on its article that BlackBerry's CEO John Chen stated his aspiration and plans to continue developing Android phones all throughout the year of 2016. Based on the recent reports that surfaced online, the company will be concentrating on the quality and features of the upcoming smartphone rather than speeding up its launch for quantity purposes.
Mr. Chen described this action as a step up in their investments in order to give encouragement for software development. This move came after the achievement of the company's first ever Android phone, the BlackBerry Priv.
Tech Times reported that the upcoming BlackBerry handset dubbed as Vienna has emerged and made the rounds on the Internet. The leak reveals a tall-looking handset with the traditional BlackBerry physical keyboard instead of the slider keyboard as seen in the Priv.
Based on the photos, the BlackBerry Vienna will be armed with a rear camera that has LED flash and a front snapper. The microSD and SIM card trays are seemingly placed on the left side, where the charging port is positioned above it. The power button on the other hand, is placed on the left side and the volume controls can be seen on the right side.
Digital Trends reported that during the meeting at CES in Las Vegas, Chen announced that the Priv would land on Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon soon, and will see expanded international accessibility. But the company had little to discuss about its own operating system or if it will release smartphones running Blackberry 10 any time soon.
The Priv is noted to possibly obtaining the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update sometime in the first quarter, so there's a slim chance that the Vienna could be rocking it at launch, too. The upcoming unit is expected to come in a slew of colors, including silver, blue, green and red.
As for its price, the company is still mum of the range and the smartphone's other features. Even the model name of the device is not yet confirmed so the above information should be taken as a pinch of salt.
