Motorola is expected to release the Moto X 2016 version at the Mobile World Congress this coming February. The device is speculated to sport a metal unibody design, fingerprint scanner and other features.
According to Bitbag, the MWC is scheduled to take place from February 22 to 25. Motorola has never announced its previous generations of Moto X at MWC but things might be different this year as the company is rumored to release its upcoming device at the event.
Reports have it that Motorola will adopt a full-metal design for the Moto X 2016. The signature "M" will be positioned below the camera lens while the speaker holes will be placed at the bottom of the device. Since Apple and Samsung are trying to launch slim phones, there is a tendency that the Moto X 2016 will be thinner than its siblings.
As for the camera, the Moto 2016 is rumored to feature a 21-megapixel rear-facing snapper and 5-megapixel front camera which is inspired by the 2015 Moto X models. This device might also be engineered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset.
Tech experts predict the handset to be packed with a 3 GB of RAM and be powered by a 3,630mAh battery. Motorola could also incorporate a bigger screen display as previous models supported a 5.7-inch and 5.5-inch display with a Quad HD resolution.
A Heat Pipe which will solve the handset's heating issues is also one of the expected additions in the device. This feature will help boosting the phone's capability.
TechnoBuffalo stated that the future Moto phones will include fingerprint recognition, though it's not yet confirmed if that means a physical sensor or Qualcomm's new ultrasonic SenseID. Either of the two options, this is one area wherein the Moto lineup has been lagging behind the competition.
Apart from the above information, Know Your Mobile reported that Lenovo will be phasing out the Motorola brand. That's the Motorola brand specifically, not the Moto phone brand. With this ,the Moto X 2016 will probably be branded as either the Lenovo Moto X, or simply the Moto X.
Rick Osterloh, Motorola's chief operating officer, clarified that the firm will slowly phase out Motorola. It is also reported that the "Moto" brand will be kept for high-end devices, while Lenovo's "Vibe" brand will be used on lower end hardware. The Lenovo's blue logo is anticipated to appear on both brands indicating that Motorola is being merged fully into Lenovo.
As usual, the company remains tight-lipped about the exact release of Moto X 2016. If not released at MWC next month, tech enthusiasts will have to wait again for the company's confirmation.
