'Star Wars: Episode IX' is an upcoming sequel in the Star Wars franchise created by George Lucas. Fans created a petition urging the return of Lucas to the franchise by replacing Colin Trevorrow as director for the ninth installment. Meanwhile, J.J. Abrams 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' is speculated to overtake James Cameron's 'Avatar' as the highest grossing movie of all time.

According to Screen Crush, fans of the science-fiction franchise have started a petition urging Lucasfilm and Disney to bring back popular director George Lucas for Episode 9. The studio previously hired Colin Trevorrow to helm the next film in the popular franchise slated for release on 2019. Trevorrow is best known for his work on 2015's 'Jurassic World' starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.

It was reported by /Film that Star Wars fan Yuri Luiz started the online petition early this month and it has already earned thousands of signatures. The petition reads, "Bring back George Lucas for the Star Wars movies. Put the father of the franchise as director of Episode IX... We have no problem with Colin Trevorrow, but he's not the right guy to direct Star Wars Episode IX. George Lucas as director of Episode IX would be the perfect way to end this new trilogy... We would like to see him again involved with the franchise. Thank you so much."

Meanwhile, J.J .Abrams' 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' has managed to top domestic and international box office records. As of writing, the seventh installment in the long-running cinematic series has earned $1.73 billion against a $200 million budget.
