'Thor: Ragnarok' is an upcoming action-fantasy film directed by Taika Waititi. Mark Ruffalo, who will appear in the film as The Hulk, revealed that Cate Blanchett is under negotiations to play a villain. Blanchett, meanwhile, admitted that she would love to be in the new film.

Ruffalo revealed that Oscar-awardee Cate Blanchett is in negotiations to play a villain in the upcoming superhero film. He broke the news during an interview with ET. He said, "I'm so thrilled. I saw her at the Governors' banquet here and heard that maybe she was circling, they were talking to her about the part, so I ran up to her and I was like, 'Please, please, please make this work!... She's just one of the best, and to have her play a baddie is going to be really exciting."

The 48-year old American actor is set to reprise his role as Bruce Banner a.k.a. The Hulk in 'Thor: Ragnarok' alongside Chris Hemsworth's titular god of thunder. Jaimie Alexander is returning as Lady Sif while Tom Hiddleston is reprising his villainous Loki.

According to Coming Soon, there has been no official confirmation regarding Blanchett's potential role. Speculations emerged of her playing the part of the powerful sorceress Amora the Enchantress or Hela, the ruler of the dead. The multi-award winning actress is best known for her work in several critically-acclaimed films including 1998's 'Elizabeth, 2004's 'The Aviator', 2006's 'Notes on a Scandal' and 2013's 'Blue Jasmine'.

Another article by Comic Book, reported that Blanchett herself jokingly admitted that she would love to be part of the new film. She said, "I would love that... I'd love to get fit and punch people." She also appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! earlier. She was asked by Kimmel if she would be in the new Thor film where she replied, "Yes, Chris Hemsworth is busy, so I've been working out."

'Thor: Ragnarok' is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film directed by Taika Waititi based on a screenplay by Stephany Folsom, Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost. It is scheduled to be released on November 3, 2017 and is currently in pre-production. It is intended as part of the MCU's Phase Three.
