'Terminator Genisys 2' Update: First movie one of 2015's worst films; Sequels could be a bad idea?

By

With Treminator Genisys' inclusion in 2015's worst films, a lot of reviews suggest that producing more sequels is a risky and bad idea.

Korea Portal reported that creating a follow up to the apocalyptic cyborg franchise would not be a wise move. There are various reports online showing that the odds are stacked against the movie from bombing in the box office, being part of the worst movies in 2015 list, and simply being a bad movie that failed to appeal to the fans of the first two films.

Forbes included Terminator Genisys in its list of worst movies in 2015. The magazine pointed out that the movie shows everything wrong with today's Hollywood thinking. It used up and coming stars such as Jai Courtney and Emilia Clarke to play roles that have no personality.

Meanwhile, according to Film School Rejects, the movie is one of the many sequel remakes this year. Star Wars: The Force Awakens could be the most successful in the genre this year. However, Terminator Genisys failed miserably as a "remakequel." The movie had plots reminiscent of the original films, but rather than honoring these elements, it tried to erase them for newer themes. The fans want the nostalgia and the familiarity, which the new Star Wars movie hit in the bull's eye.

Also, the film withheld too much information in a move to set the stage for the sequels, which probably will never happen. Since it is PG-13, it lacks the elements that the fans of the original films loved.

Its action sequences are nothing audiences haven't seen before. Also, its characters lack the chemistry. One of the biggest twists in the movie was spoiled in the second trailer, making no emotional impact on the viewers who actually went out to watch the entire film.

The movie flopped in the US, but it made big profits in China. With a budget of $155 million, a gross of $440 million is only a near-miss. Sequels to this remakequel franchise are iffy and risky.
