Sam Mendes's Spectre might be inferior compared to its predecessor in terms of box office gross, nonetheless, it has introduced yet another intimidating villain in the franchise. The Oscar winning actor Christoph Waltz is reported to reprise his role of a classic villain in Bond 25 as Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
Christoph Waltz is rumored to be returning not just for Bond 25, but also for Bond 26. Though the actor is truly hoping that he will be included in the next movie, he has one condition that will surely get the producers and directors reconstructing future Bond movies. Christoph Waltz will come back only when Daniel Craig is still James Bond.
Skyfall earned a widespread critical acclaim and became the highest-grossing James Bond installment. Sam Mendes' first James Bond earned $1 Billion worldwide. The expectations were set and soaring sky high for the follow up. However, the result of Spectre was considered to be 'not that magnificient'. Spectre only earned $864.8 million worldwide. By this, fans can infer that the studio wants to have a fresh and new James Bond in Bond 25.
Without Daniel Craig in Bond 25, Waltz will not be returning as well. Logically, without Craig as James Bond, there's no continuity anymore for this version of the secret agent. Ernst Stavro Blofeld is known to have a long and close relationship with James Bond since their childhood, and to continue such story with a new actor would be a bit strange and unreasonable. With or without Daniel Craig, the James Bond franchise would still have reboots for sure.
According to Mirror, Christoph Waltz is signed on for two more Bond films. Again, the clincher is that he wanted to go back into the fold only if Daniel Craig reprises 007. Meanwhile, Michael G. Wilson, series producer of the film, has stated that he thinks Craig will return for Bond 25.
With the producer's revelation, it seems like Christoph Waltz and Daniel Craig's future in the James Bond Series is very much up in the air. Everyone will just have to wait and see what Son y Pictures have in store for Bond 25.
