Unknown Connecticut Driver Strikes Police Cruiser In Attempt to Avoid DUI Checkpoint

By

Connecticut state police are looking for the driver of a car that crashed onto a state police cruiser that was parked to the side of an off-ramp in his attempt to avoid a DUI checkpoint on Saturday night. State police enlists help from citizens.

Police Trooper Kelly Grant said that a newer model silver Infinity four-door sedan with a Connecticut license plate avoided a spot check the state police were conducting on the I-84 westbound exit 18 off-ramp in Southbury reports The United Patriot. The incident happened at around 9 p.m.

Grant further reported to Courant that the suspect saw the spot check and observed the sobriety testing activity for a little while. He then backed down the off-ramp in reverse but this maneuver only caused his vehicle to collide with the parked state police car. The suspect refused to stop after the crash and seemingly without hesitation, fled the scene.

The sharp eyed troopers also noted the letters "AA" that were inscribed on the Connecticut license plate as the car fled the scene. The Infinity is also said to have a damage along the passenger side that could possibly stretch from the front end to the rear of the car.

According to NBC Connecticut, the car kept going in the direction of the city Waterbury. No one was in the police cruiser at the time of the incident. It incurred moderate damage and was driven back to police barracks from the crash scene

State police request anyone with information regarding the incident or has details about the car which can lead to the identity of the driver to call Troop A at 203-267-2200203-267-2200 or text TIP711 with the information to 236748 and reference Case 16-00003686.
