'Doctor Strange' is an upcoming superhero film based on the Marvel comics character of the same name. Benedict Cumberbatch transformed into the titular Sorcerer Supreme for his new photoshoot for Entertainment Weekly and revealed that things will get "crazy" for the new film.
According to The Guardian, Benedict Cumberbatch debuted as the titular Sorcerer Supreme in a new feature by Entertainment Weekly. The actor posed in various shots clad in the character's iconic Cloak of Levitation and blue tunic with the Eye of Agamotto amulet suspended on his chest. He also sported Strange's signature goatee bringing to life one of the most fascinating characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Cumberbatch admitted that the photoshoot was challenging with a great deal of detail especially on the hand poses. He said, "I've got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically... I'm thinking, there's going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I'm still working on that. We haven't played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It's like anything, you just have to experiment."
According to another article by The Daily Mail, Cumberbatch revealed that audiences will get a heavy dose of magic and action in the upcoming live-action adaptation. He said, "There's all sorts of craziness. Falling, flying, jumping, fighting, punching, getting punched. It's really rough-and-tumble." It was also reported that although Cumberbatch did not dream of ever playing a superhero on the big screen, he found 'Doctor Strange' interesting.
The 39-year old English actor will take on the role of Doctor Strange, a once arrogant neurosurgeon who transformed into a master of the mystic arts after a life-altering accident. The character was created by artist Steve Ditko and Stan Lee and first appeared in the 'Strange Tales' comic book in July 1963.
An ensemble cast will be joining Cumberbatch in the new film namely Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams and Tilda Swinton. According to the Telegraph, Mads Mikkelsen of 'Casino Royale' fame has been confirmed as the film's main antagonist. No further details have been revealed as of the present.
'Doctor Strange' is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film based on the character from the Marvel comic books. It is scheduled to be released on November 6, 2017 and is currently filming in the United Kingdom under the direction of Scott Derrickson. It is intended as the 14th installment in the MCU.
