CyanogenMod 13 has released Android 6.0 Marshmallow custom ROM firmware for Sony Xperia Z3 making the device finally eligible for the update. Though there are still some bugs on the CM13 series which was highlighted to be still experimental, procedures on how to install were still specified.
According to Thedroidtweaks, the first thing to keep in mind when installing is that this Android 6.0 Marshmallow custom firmware has to be installed on the Sony Xperia Z3 model. If tried on other handsets, it might get bricked. To check for the handset's model, users have to go to Settings then about phone and look for the model number.
Users also have to make sure their Xperia Z3 smartphones aer rooted before going ahead with custom ROM installation. The installation of custom ROM needs clearing of memory in the smartphone, so users have to make sure to back all the data by installing Clockwork Mod (CWM) Recovery/ TWRP in the handset. Lastly, owners of Xperi Z3 have to make sure their device has more than 80 percent battery.
International Business Times gave the step-by-step procedure of the firmware installation.
After Downloading CyanogenMod (unofficial) 6.0 Marshmallow custom firmware and Google Apps into the user's PC, they have to connect Sony Xperia Z3 to PC via USB chord.
Next, they have to place Android M custom firmware .zip file and Google Apps .zip file into the phone's internal storage, turn off the device and disconnect from the PC and perform the regular Recovery Mode by press holding Volume Up, Home and Power buttons.
After they have entered the RECOVERY mode, they should clear the phone memory, by choosing wipe data/factory reset and they also need to clear the cache memory by selecting wipe cache partition.
The next thing to do is return to the ClockworkMod recovery, and select advanced and tap wipe dalvik cache. After that, they can go back to the main recovery screen; tap install zip from SD card; tap choose zip from SDcard'; go to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop ROM .zip file in SD card and enter the installation process. Once done with the installation process, navigate to '+++++Go Back+++++' and re-start the device by opting reboot system now seen in the recovery menu.
The Sony Xperia Z3 will take at least five minutes to complete the booting process. Users will then have to go to handset's 'Settings' option>> select 'About phone' to confirm the installation of CyanogenMod (unofficial) 6.0 Marshmallow custom firmware.
Apart from the Android 6.0 Marshmallow via custom ROM update, WCCFTech recently reported that users can update their Xperia Z3 to Android 6 Marshmallow using an unofficial CM13 custom firmware based on the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Developers have tweaked this custom ROM to be stable, smooth and fast and it will also bring all the popular CyanogenMod features.
This CyanogenMod 13 custom ROM is expected to bring enhancements to the Sony Xperia Z3 devices. However, the installation of this firmware requires knowledge on the software to avoid getting the handsets bricked.
