Rob Zombie's newest feature film gets slapped with an NC-17 rating twice by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) despite the filmmaker's struggle to attain a lower R-rating. The horror film is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival next year.

According to U Interview, Zombie's upcoming independent horror film received an NC-17 rating from MPAA even after the musician-turned-filmmaker worked to get an R-rating. Zombie said through a post on Facebook, "Well, after two tries through the MPAA, our rating on 31 remains NC-17... Maybe three is the charm to get an R rating. Why R, you ask? Well, because your local theater will not show an NC-17. Even though you are a f***ing adult... Things much be censored for your enjoyment."

Zombie's new film is scheduled to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 23, 2016, according to Loudwire. However, the 50-year old is still struggling to get a rating lower than NC-17. A rating of NC-17 imposes that anyone under the age of 17 is not allowed to view the film but an R-rating would allow entry for persons should they be accompanied by parents or a guardian of appropriate age.

MPAA's stated that '31' features "sadistic graphic violence, bizarre sexuality/nudity, pervasive disturbing images and some strong language." According to Blabbermouth.net, the film takes place on Halloween night and revolves around five carnival workers who are taken hostage in a compound named Murder World and hunted for sport for 12 hours. Zombie hinted, "...And if they survive, they're set free. If they don't survive, well then, they don't survive."

'31' is an independent horror film written and directed by Rob Zombie. It is scheduled to be released on January 23, 2016 in the United States. It stars Malcom McDowell, Elizabeth Daily, Meg Foster, Sheri Moon Zombie, Ginger Lynn, Daniel Roebuck, Tracey Walter, Richard Brake, Lew Temple and Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs among others.
