‘The Affair’ Renewed for Season 3 By Showtime; Shocking Finale Hits Series High

The Affair will return for another run next year. Showtime has officially renewed the one hour drama for a third season. Meanwhile, its second season finale reached a series high on ratings.

Earlier this month, Showtime has granted The Affair a third season pickup alongside Homeland which was also renewed for a sixth season. The renewal came two weeks ahead of its second season finale. Deadline has learned the news.

This season ender saw Noah making an unexpected decision. When Detective Jeffries prepared to enter the courtroom and say his piece for Noah’s possible acquittal, Noah chose a different and shocking move instead. Without his lawyer’s approval, Noah announced that he is the one guilty for murdering Scotty. TV Line wrote the recap in a report.

Viewers have yet to find out the ramifications of this latest storyline for Noah in the new bunch of episodes. Showtime has yet to announce the logline for season 3 as well as the start of production date. No word yet on whether new characters will join The Affair following the cliffhanger that unfolded in the Dec. 20th installment.

The Affair, which stars Dominic West and Joshua Jackson, hails from Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi.

The turn of events on last Sunday’s season finale brought The Affair towards its series high to date. According to Variety, it targeted a total of 1.11 million viewers, an uptick of 12% from its recent series high and an increase of 17% from the first season finale. The previous episodes of The Affair averaged with 818,000 on same day viewership and 1.35 million in Live+3.

On the heels of that shocking finale, it’s going to be another anticipated season of The Affair next year. Fans of the series should definitely watch closely for tidbits relating to Noah’s stupid decision.
