"Sons of Anarchy" actor Charlie Hunnam has finally spoken up about dropping out of "Fifty Shades of Grey."
Breathecast reported that Hunnam revealed the reason during his interview with Us Weekly. According to the actor, his busy schedule has forced him to give up the lead role of Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of E.L. James adult novel.
"I wouldn't have signed up in the first place if I didn't want to do it. It was a really, really difficult time in my life. I had already been attached to 'Crimson Peak' for about 14 months, which I said, I was going to do with Guillermo [del Toro]," Hunnam explained.
Hunnam was previously cast to play the character of the eccentric billionaire. However, he was very much tied up as he was also playing the role of Jax Teller in "Sons of Anarchy" as well as Dr. Alan McMichael in Guillermo del Toro's upcoming film.
Because of this, he decided to give up the role two months after confirming it to his fans. Jamie Dornan eventually landed the role.
"I was going to finish 'Sons' at like 11 p.m. Friday night, get on the plane Saturday morning to Vancouver for 'Fifty,' missing the whole first week of rehearsal, and start shooting Monday morning. And I was going to shoot that film, wrap that on the Wednesday and the following Monday I was going to start shooting 'Crimson Peak' in Toronto," Hunnam explained.
He expressed his fear of ruining the highly-anticipated film because he could not properly carry his role.
"Because 'Fifty's' going to be massive, it's going to be huge, I really didn't want to fail on such a grand scale, and I just couldn't transition from Jax Teller to Christian Grey in 48 hours," said Hunnam.
"Fifty Shades of Grey" is set to premiere on February 13, 2015.
