A California mother is facing a murder charge after allegedly slitting her 11-year-old son's throat following a Disneyland trip during a custody visit, just before he was set to return to his father's care.
Saritha Ramaraju and her ex-husband had been engaged in a custody arrangement following their 2018 divorce, according to the Orange County District Attorney. As part of the custody visit, she took their son to Disneyland for a three-day trip.
On March 19, when it was time for the boy to be returned to his father, Ramaraju made a chilling call to 911, confessing to killing her son and ingesting pills in a suicide attempt.
The tragic events unfolded at the La Quinta Inn in Santa Ana, California. When authorities arrived, they found the boy's lifeless body in the motel room, with a large kitchen knife found at the scene.
Ramaraju was arrested on suspicion of murder, and she is now charged with one felony count of murder and one felony enhancement for using a weapon. She faces a maximum sentence of 26 years to life in prison if convicted.
