An armed man was shot by U.S. Secret Service agents near the White House early Sunday morning.

On Saturday, police in Indiana contacted the Secret Service and alerted them that a "suicidal individual" might be on his way to Washington D.C.

Around midnight, Secret Service agents found the individual's vehicle parked near 17th Street and F Street. They also saw a person who matched the description of the "suicidal individual," according to a statement from the Secret Service.

"As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm, and an armed confrontation ensued during which shots were fired (by the Secret Service)," the statement reads.

The person was taken to an area hospital, and their condition is unknown.

President Trump was in Florida at the time of the incident, and no one else was injured in the confrontation, the Associated Press reported. The man's name has not yet been released.
