Fans of the comic book spider-hero are in for an exciting treat as Sony announced the release dates of the third and fourth installments of Spiderman.
The Amazing Spiderman 3 is set for release this June 10, 2016 while The Amazing Spiderman 4 is set for release this May 4, 2018.
However, it should not be assumed that these dates are all set in stone. These releases are still murky since it is still too early to conclude. According to VCPost, those involved in the franchise are saying that "The Amazing Spiderman" franchise may be in a little bit of trouble.
According to Producer Matt Tolmach in an article by The Hollywood Reporter, there may be a switch in the previously announced release date of the fourth franchise in 2018. Instead of The Amazing Spiderman 4, the slot may possibly go "Sinister Six" or "Venom."
"Before we know what we do with Spider-Man 4, we're going to do Sinister Six, Venom and Spider-Man 3. There is going to be a lot of crossover in those movies," Tolmach said. "So we're just not at Spider-Man 4, because we still have a whole other Spider-Man movie and two other movies. So we don't know yet what [Spider-Man 4] is going to be," he added.
A report from cinemablend.com also said that release of The Amazing Spiderman 3 may move to 2017, almost a year delay from its originally announced date.
Althought it is too early to tell, there are no updates yet on whether director Marc Webb or stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will be back for the third and fourth installments. Getting Stone, especially, is a long shot for the sequel after her character's demise in the second installment.
Sony Pictures Co-Chairman Amy Pascal also revealed to Entertainment Weekly that Spiderman may have his hands full with Electro, Rhino, and Goblin. They may be playing as the villains in the upcoming franchises.
