An Arizona man was lured from his home and killed after offering to help a stranger with car trouble, according to authorities.
The body of Paul Clifford, 53, was discovered near a smoldering vehicle in the Redington Pass area near Tucson, People reported based on Pima County Sheriff's Department reports.
Clifford, described by his daughter as a "gentle giant with a huge, caring heart," reportedly drove a truck late on December 23 to assist someone who knocked on his door asking for help with a vehicle issue. When he did not return home, concerned family members alerted law enforcement.
Investigators suspect the incident may be tied to a stolen vehicle, which was later recovered at an apartment complex in Tucson. Authorities have not disclosed how far from his home or the stolen vehicle Clifford's body was found.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of my dad," Clifford's daughter, Sabrina Vining, wrote in a GoFundMe post. "My mom is going to need help in the wake of this devastation."
The sheriff's office has not named any suspects or indicated whether the assailant acted alone. The investigation is ongoing.
